Description & Services

Information The Little White Schoolhouse Museum presents the historic and cultural values of the advancement of Nova Scotia's education system. The museum is situated in the former Riverton schoolhouse (from Pictou County) and showcases exhibits on the early common school, the development of teacher training at the Provincial Normal School and on the scientific, cultural, social and spiritual impact of the early education system.

The archives includes a large collection of texts used in Nova Scotia schools, Annual Reports of the Superintendent of Education, the Journal of Education and many other photographs and documents related to the early education system. The early records of students at the Normal School/College provide valuable information to many genealogists. Volunteers will happily answer any queries that come to us via Facebook, our website or email.
