Description & Services
Information Special Olympics Amherst is part of Special Olympics Nova Scotia. We provide sport training and athletic competition to people with an intellectual disability. Special Olympics promotes inclusion, dignity, respect and acceptance through sport. In Amherst, practice is on Sunday afternoons at E.B. Chandler Jr. High School. Winter sports include basketball, floor hockey and bowling (after a warm-up at the school, the bowlers go to the bowling alley). The athletes are asked to pay $1.00 a practice while they are inside. Summer sports include athletics, bocce and soccer. This takes place at the Amherst Regional High School. Coaches have taken various courses and are certified. At the present time, there are seven coaches.
Eligibility Practices have been suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
